I have a standing/spring load basketball goal that has a hole in the base. What can I use to patch the hole?

The basketball goal’s base can be filled with sand or water. We have opted to use water but the hole continue to drain out when we put it away for the evening. Each time we fill it with water and it drains out the hole become a little worse. We haven’t had it for long and this was the last one of its kind that we liked. HELP
There is some stuff called aqua mend, it’s like a putty, hardens up, and is waterproof. Home Depot carries it, and it’s around the caulk aisle. I used it on a fishpond and it still works. Good luck.
